SIT Study Abroad: Nepal: Tibetan and Himalayan Peoples

Learn about Tibetan and Himalayan politics, religion, and the challenges faced by communities in exile. Spend six weeks in Kathmandu, home to a significant Tibetan community, and study topics such as the Dalai Lama’s Middle Way approach, human rights in Tibet, and traditional Tibetan medicine, Sowa Rigpa. Explore ancient pilgrimage routes, deconstruct myths about Tibet, and trek to rural mountain communities. Learn Tibetan, with the option to study Nepali, and complete independent research or an internship.

Please visit the SIT Study Abroad website for details on the program highlights and details of coursework, educational excursions, and housing.

HEAR FROM A FORMER STUDENT

"This program gives an incredible experience taking you through the history, culture, and language of the Tibet and the Himalayas. Kathmandu is a wonderful place to live, and the homestay gives safety and built in family. Courses are experiential: the only way to learn abroad. The Tibetan language course is fun and lively, but it also helps in the smaller commutes in the mountains and in India. Academically, I came home with a vast knowledge of the cultural landscape of Nepal, Tibet, and the Himalayas."
