Program Description:

SIT Study Abroad: Madagascar: Traditional Medicine & Healthcare Systems (Summer)

Examine how history, geography, biodiversity, and demographics shape both allopathic and traditional healthcare in Madagascar. In one of the world’s most megadiverse countries, explore plant-based medicine and the role of unique flora and fauna in traditional healthcare practices. From your base in Antananarivo, study ethnobotany, folk remedies, and healthcare access, while meeting academics, doctors, and Malagasy students. Gain insight into how cultural and religious beliefs influence healthcare, and journey through rainforests and mineral forests in search of rare plants and wildlife.

Please visit the SIT Study Abroad website for details on the program, coursework, educational excursions, and housing.

HEAR FROM A FORMER STUDENT
"Overall, studying in Madagascar with SIT was one of the best decisions I've made. It is a really unique country, and I don't imagine my experience could be replicated anywhere else. The program instructor, Nat Quansah, is an incredible person and teacher. He is clearly very passionate about his work and fostering curiosity, compassion, and enthusiasm in his students."
