Spanish Language & Volunteer Service

Colombia language & Volunteer
CUSTOMIZE. MAXIMIZE. REALIZE.
IPSL’s Spanish Language & Volunteer Service program, in Medellín or Cartagena, Colombia, offers participants an opportunity to study language, intensively, while also doing volunteer service within the host community. What better way to maximize your exposure to the language and culture than through volunteering with locals?!

This program is completely customizable, which means that you determine how many weeks you want to stay, how many hours of instruction you want, whether or not you receive university credit, among other customizable aspects. Please contact IPSL to set up a time to discuss your interests and goals in a Language & Volunteer program and they will advise you on creating a program that perfectly suits your needs and budget.

DANCE CLASS
IPSL's Language & Culture Programs
IPSL has emphasized language learning since 1981 because research proves that higher levels of language proficiency can facilitate a more rewarding international experience. Being able to communicate with people in their language increases your ability to make meaning out of the experiences you have while abroad. In addition, merely making the effort to learn someone else's language is a demonstrative way to show people that you care and are interested in who they are and often paves the way to long-lasting friendships (Citizen Diplomacy). And of course, students need to know at least one other language to compete in the global job market. For these reasons and more, IPSL Institute for Global Learning offers exceptional Language and Culture programs in many different countries.

Benefits Include:
Flexible program lengths - students can choose the number of weeks they want to stay!
Classes start every Monday.
(If you want academic credit, each week of instruction is equal to about 1 semester credit so 3 weeks equals a standard 3-credit course)
Pre-vetted language schools with the highest credentials available.
Placement and Oversight in a Community-based Organization
Flexible lodging options to fit your taste.
Affordable fee structures.
Great opportunity to make new friends, as students from around the world study at IPSL's partner schools.

Students can opt to receive an official transcript from the IPSL Institute for Global Learning for their academic work abroad.
Most schools offer a language exam so students can receive a widely recognized certification of their language proficiency level. The courses can be credit-bearing, and depending on the number of instructional hours and the courses taken, students can earn approximately 1 credit per week in language instruction. Credits earned are based on instructional hours. Standard courses offer about 16 hours per week, or roughly 1 credit each week. So, if a student takes the Standard course for 14 weeks, they will earn about 14 credits. All language levels are taught (A1 - C2), so even students with no proficiency can study. Courses start every Monday. Other content courses vary from 1-3 credits each. There are excursion options, as well.
