eurasian regional language program (erlp)
The Eurasian Regional Language Program (ERLP) provides high-quality language instruction and cultural programming to participants studying the languages of Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Russia, Ukraine, and Moldova. All program sites offer individualized instruction, homestays, and extracurricular activities.
Program Features
Study the language and culture of one of nine different Eurasian countries. Languages offered include:
- Armenian in Yerevan, Armenia
- Azerbaijani and Turkish in Baku, Azerbaijan
- Georgian and Chechen in Tbilisi, Georgia
- Kazakh in Almaty, Kazakhstan
- Kyrgyz in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
- Romanian in Chisinau, Moldova
- Bashkir, Buryat, Tatar, and Yakut in Russia (Temporarily suspended)
- Persian (Dari, Farsi, Tajiki), Pashto, and Uzbek in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
- Ukrainian in Kyiv, Ukraine (Temporarily suspended)
Available during Fall, Spring, Academic Year, and Summer (8 week) terms
15 – 18 hours per week of intensive coursework in the target language’s grammar, vocabulary, and phonetics. Conducted by faculty from leading local universities, coursework also includes topics in literature, history, politics, and regional studies
Participants earn 15-16 U.S. academic credits per semester (8-10 for summer) in the target language and regional studies through Bryn Mawr College
Housing with carefully-selected, experienced host families who provide two meals per day
Cultural activities & excursions designed to give participants a deeper understanding of daily life, culture, and history in the host country
Comprehensive health, accident, and evacuation insurance for all participants abroad

Eligibility Requirements
- 2 semesters of the target language or a related language
- Minimum 2.7 GPA
- At least 18 years old by application deadline
