You will live and work in Quepos, a short bus ride from the famous Manuel Antonio National Park and beach, focusing on lending assistance to the local school district to make up for a shortage of teachers.

From this location we offer short-term volunteering starting from 2 weeks. We also offer internships which would include one-on-one mentoring and training by expert GVI staff and on longer durations can lead to job placements.

Volunteers can expect the following highlights on this program:
  • Volunteers will be placed in a local school, planning and assisting in general education lessons for children and other community members;
  • organizing art workshops, games and sport activities. Volunteers will also be expected to assist with other community projects as needed
  • experience the rich culture and physical beauty of Costa Rica while making a positive difference
Opportunities for white water rafting, surfing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, surfing, rainforest canopy tours, diving or snorkelling and visiting idyllic tropical beaches and rainforests. This program provides you with an excellent opportunity to learn a new language and work with children at the same time. In the communities where our projects are based, you will be expected to make an effort to speak Spanish in order to communicate.  Speak to your Country Expert about fully preparing you for life on the program by adding on group/1-on-1 Spanish lessons to your program cost. We also recommend that you start practicing early in order to get the most out of your volunteering experience.

By volunteering on this program, you will be helping to establish long-term, sustainable development initiatives across a variety of areas. Your involvement means that as well as helping address the severe shortage of teachers and mentors in communities, you will be making your mark in sustainable education efforts.

If applying for this program to obtain credit from an institution, GVI can supply learning outcomes and support in the application.
