Gain expertise in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), as well as international development, on this six-month education and community development internship in Costa Rica. The first three months will be spent mastering new skills with the support of GVI staff at our sustainable development base in Quepos. The second three months be spent putting your skills into practice as a member of the GVI staff team.
Program Focus
Kickstart your career teaching English abroad, on this internship in Costa Rica. During your first three months earn your TEFL certificate and gain real experience in the classroom. During the last three months, contribute to the running of our sustainable development and service learning projects in Quepos as a GVI staff member.
On this internship you have the opportunity to master not only technical skills like Spanish competency and teaching English to foreign language students but also transferable skills like group and project management as well as cross cultural communication.
Location
Quepos, located three hours from the Costa Rican capital of San Jose, is a traditional laid-back Costa Rican town. Known as the entrance to world famous Manuel Antonio National Park, the town has maintained its traditional Costa Rican heritage. The town is an attractive location for international tourists and many locals are employed in the tourism industry. However, they need to be able to fulfill the English language skills required by local employers. These employment opportunities also attract immigrants from other Latin America countries who have settled in informal areas around Quepos. In your free time, take advantage of the myriad of adventure activities that this diverse coastal region has to offer. So why not take the short bus ride to visit the famous Manuel Antonio National Park or the local palm fringed beaches.
