Program Description:

Fiji Micro-enterprise and Business Short Term Internship

As an intern on this short-term program, you will be helping to set up income-generating initiatives to encourage longer term economic sustainability in the local community. Assist villagers in adapting their livelihoods in response to the changing pressures on traditional life due to both environmental and social change. GVI focuses on empowering communities by actively engaging in important issues involved with the factors that inform their quality of life, such as access to fresh water, access to education, food security, and options for income generation.

Program Focus
This program offers you the opportunity to get involved in a host of community development initiatives, such as fresh water management, education enrichment, environmental monitoring and mapping, income generation, waste management, health awareness, women’s empowerment and sustainable agriculture practice.The goals and priorities of this internship are discussed and determined in collaboration with the local communities of the Moturiki and Dawasamu District. The core focus areas of the program include WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) promotion, health & nutrition, income generation, education enrichment and empowerment, and environmental management & protection.

Located among the forests and mountainous backdrop of the Dawasamu District, you will be working alongside the local community and contributing to development initiatives in the region. The dramatic Fijian landscape is defined by sweeping volcanic hillsides, dense jungle, fresh water waterfalls, extensive beaches and colorful coral reefs.Fiji is an archipelago of over 300 islands located in the Pacific Ocean. This destination offers more than the classic island paradise experience.The country is also a leader in sustainability and ecotourism, effectively managing its natural resources and economically benefiting from this investment. By volunteering in Fiji, you’ll be able to experience the natural abundance of Pacific environments while learning how to best preserve them.
