The Sustainable Economic and Community Development Summer Program

Program Overview
The Sustainable Economic and Community Development study abroad program seek to explore the nexus of community development and sustainable economic development.

Participants will learn about the key aspects of the Belizean economy and the challenges faced at the macroeconomic and community levels through a series of lectures, field trips, and community service.  

The concept of sustainable development is multidisciplinary and draws on the expertise of many disciplines. Learning outcomes for participants include understanding the complexity of development in its various dimensions. The program equally prioritizes intercultural learning.

In addition, the program aims to examine the interaction of community development with the main objectives of investing in human capital, the alleviation of poverty, and environmental preservation.

Community service may include assisting farmers, facilitating hygiene, and financial literacy education programs in schools.

Community service is intended to provide lasting value for a rural community in Belize while preparing participants with real-world experience.

Participants will enjoy the added diversity of authentic culturally immersive experiences and free time to explore the host country.

No pre-requite course is required to enroll in this program.
