Join
International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the
Sustainable Agriculture & Community Development Volunteer Program in Jamaica.
On this program, you will help encourage young people in Jamaica to get involved in agriculture and develop an interest in farming, beekeeping, soap making, paper making and other skills which may help generate future income opportunities.
You’ll stay in a dormitory-style volunteer house.
The program has
start dates on the first and third Monday of each month throughout the year.
This program ranges from 1-4 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available
on our website.
Your Impact
As a Sustainable Agriculture volunteer, you’ll help encourage local youth from the wider community to learn new farming skills, which can generate steady future income streams for them. The farm also provides a safe “hang out” environment for young people, and those who attend receive a stipend and 2 meals a day for their contribution. You can expect to be involved in tasks such as:
- Preparing / cleaning garden beds for planting
- Preparing produce for sale (processing)
- Maintaining garden beds
- Engaging with young people (discussing interests, signposting to local organizations and encouraging learning skills)
- Caring for animals (chickens, rabbits)
- Grant & proposal writing
- Social media & admin
- Arts & crafts such as producing body soaps from ingredients on the property and making paper from non-producing banana trees which would otherwise be burned
