Program Description:
Community Madagascar
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Community Development Volunteer Program in Madagascar.

On this program, you will help improve local infrastructure on the tiny island of Nosy Komba and its neighbors. Volunteers gain experience in construction and maintenance at schools and in the surrounding communities while undertaking vital upgrades and repairs that make buildings safer, functional and more attractive for the people who use them.

Volunteers are accommodated in locally built open-air huts on Nosy Komba and can expect to share a hut with up to five other volunteers of the same gender.

The program has start dates on the first and third Monday of the month throughout the year.

This program ranges from 1-12 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.
 
Your Impact

As a Community Development volunteer you’ll be based in small village schools, where our Teaching project volunteers work, and assist on community projects around town and on the nearby islands. You can help with a range of general maintenance and construction, including:
  • Building and upgrading ablution blocks
  • Painting
  • Small construction tasks
  • Repairs

How to Apply

Apply for free: Complete an online application form via the IVHQ website.
 
  • Select your start date & duration: All IVHQ volunteer programs are available year-round and you can choose to volunteer for durations on this program ranging from 1 to 12 weeks.
  • Complete your registration: After you have been accepted on your chosen program, you can secure your place by paying the Registration Fee.
  • Pay your Program Fee: This is only due 30 days before your program starts.
Need to make changes to your booking? You can make free unlimited changes to your destination, project and dates up until 14 days before you start.
