Denmark: Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS)

Program Highlights

City: Annually atop the list of the world's happiest places, Copenhagen is graced with many historical, well-preserved buildings, old winding streets, open squares, and an array of towers, castles, and parks. Popular attractions in Copenhagen include the Tivoli Gardens, the Little Mermaid Statue, Rosenborg Castle, and many more.

University: Located in the heart of Copenhagen, the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) is a non-profit institution affiliated with the University of Copenhagen. DIS offers coursework in English to approximately 1,000 international students each year.

Academics: Earn Major, Minor, and General Education credit.

Tuition: Same tuition cost as home CSU campus.

Language of Instruction: English

For the DIS Architecture & Design Program: Must be an architecture major from Cal Poly SLO or Cal Poly Pomona.
 

About the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS)

Located in the heart of Copenhagen, DIS offers coursework in English to approximately 1,000 international students each year. In addition to specific program course requirements, students choose elective courses from a wide variety of subjects including sustainability, psychology, sociology, gender and sexuality studies, humanities, etc. Students are also required to study the Danish language both fall and spring semesters.
 
DIS Architecture & Design
This program includes studio, lecture, and seminar courses on Scandinavian and Danish architecture. The program provides faculty-curated study tours to western Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Switzerland. The faculty are practicing Danish architects and designers, as well as faculty at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture and Denmark’s Design School.
 
DIS Child Development & Diversity
In the fall semester, this program focuses on the innovative approaches of the Danish education system in dealing with children with physical, cognitive, neurological, or social disabilities. In the spring semester, the program focuses on how ethnic diversity and multiculturalism are perceived and practiced in Danish early childhood education. The program includes a year-long practicum that allows you to actively engage with a Danish childcare institution, public school, or high school. Students will travel with DIS faculty on course-integrated study tours to explore cross-cultural European educational methods by visiting practitioners, researchers, and childcare and youth institutions.
